There's nothing I love more than a good book, the more angst the better for me. I received my first e-reader a little over two years ago and since then my reading habit increased 100x. The 1-click buy now option is now my dealer and I'm addicted. I read anywhere between 400-500 books a year of all genres but mostly the books that I read fall into the romance/erotica category. Until recently I avoided leaving written reviews for the books that I've read but recently I made the decision to try to review what I can. All reviews that I write are based solely on my own opinion. I am not swayed by other reviews or opinions and I could care less if my review is the only good or bad review left for a book. I'm honest to a fault when it comes to that. My reviews may not be popular but they are mine :)
Bound by Vengeance (SKALS, #2) - Adriana Noir This review covers both books in this series.Due to the authors warning in the blurb for both books I knew what I was getting into.First off I will say that the author did a good job writing a book that was readable and not filled with mistakes. If not for that this series would have ended up in my DNF pile.I like anti-hero's. I like books filled with angst, but I do have my limits. I read both books for the sole purpose of finding out whether or not the author could redeem the H and actually pull it off. Here we have a damaged hero that is a complete asshole. Some would say that he is dominant. I say he is a bully who is a control freak. This H uses fear and intimidation to get his way, and while the author may label his behavior as domestic discipline, I disagree with that assessment. Oh, and did I mention that this H is a complete asshole?Don't get me wrong, the H had his moments where he came across as likeable, but those times were short lived. The heroine in this book spent most of her time cleaning and cooking while cowering in fear wondering if the H was going to be in a bad mood when he got home or not. This h was clueless, and when she would say or do something that the H considered wrong he would go off on her, and not in a good way. The H's reactions had nothing to do with BDSM, domestic discipline, or D/s situations. This H is abusive and at this point the heroine doesn't even have a choice but to put up with his abuse and be with him. I will read the next book because I'm curious to see if this h get's a back bone at some point but I am not holding my breath.
